Ian Proctor,
Deputy President, Head, Residential Tenancies Division, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal

After a varied career in the law, in 1996 Ian joined the Victorian Department of Justice managing projects related to legislative reform. In 1997 he was appointed as the project manager for the creation of VCAT. In 1998 he was appointed as VCAT's first principal registrar. This included managing the VCAT residential tenancies registry.

In 2006, Ian was appointed as a VCAT member working across many of VCAT’s jurisdictions, including the Residential Tenancies List, holding VCAT hearings across Victoria. In 2012, he was appointed as a senior member. In 2018 he was appointed a VCAT deputy president.

In late 2019, Ian was appointed as, and remains, head of VCAT’s Residential Tenancies Division. He brings a practical perspective to the VCAT process, hearing and deciding VCAT residential tenancy applications every week.
