Carlton is located on the edge of the CBD and is a small mixed-use suburb in Melbourne's inner north. Carlton is dominated by its proximity to a number of universities including Melbourne University and RMIT and as a result is home to large numbers of students. Carlton is also a centre for health care with a number of hospitals located in and around the suburb. Carlton is also home to the Carlton Gardens which are home to the Melbourne Museum and Royal Exhibition Building.
