REIV hosts Victorian Opposition for forum on property tax policy

Date: 12 Sep 23

The Real Estate Institute of Victoria today hosted State Opposition leaders for a forum focused on property tax policy.

More than 40 REIV members joined REIV President Andrew Meehan, REIV CEO Quentin Kilian OAM, Shadow Treasurer Brad Rowswell MP and Shadow Finance, Home Ownership and Housing Affordability Minister Jess Wilson MP to unpack and interrogate the Coalition’s recently released discussion paper on Victoria’s tax system.

The forum put particular focus on:

  • The impact of property tax policy on the rental market

  • The role that tax policy can play in addressing the housing affordability crisis

  • Recently released six-point scorecard for more affordable housing in Victoria

Mr Kilian said the session provided a valuable opportunity for REIV members to meet political representatives and exchange issues and ideas.

“It’s important for the REIV, as a peak body, to work with political representatives and advance policy that is in the best interests of all participants of the industry. The forum provided good insights for our members and we’re determined to continue the discussion on better property policy on their behalf.”
