Home Buyers get the green bug
16-Jun-2007
IT used to be about location, location, location -- but green-conscious house hunters now want to know where the water tank is, too.
New figures from the Real Estate Institute of Victoria show water and energy-saving features are key factors when buying a home.
The survey showed 93 per cent of Australians rate green considerations as important to their decision.
And the GardenState is leading the way, with 27 per cent of Victorians saying water and energy saving was crucial to the decision, ahead of all other states except Queensland.
REIV chief Enzo Raimondo said the figures sent a clear message to owners intending to sell.
``Sellers will need to consider water and energy-saving features if they want to maximise interest,'' Mr Raimondo said.
``It won't be long before we will see energy-saving features included on sale boards, along with other features of the property.''
House prices were still the top consideration for home buyers, with 26 per cent of people saying it was their No.1 priority.
Twenty-one per cent said location was No.1.
