The Estate Agents Council has been asked by the Minister for Consumer Affairs to advise on measures to encourage more competition in the real estate industry. The enquiry will be based on consultation with all stakeholders, including representatives from the industry, consumer groups and relevant professional bodies, including bodies representing professional lawyers and accountants. The enquiry will also consider the costs and benefits of relaxing the present requirements on lawyers, accountants and other suitably qualified professionals to obtain an estate agent’s licence. Attached are the Terms of Reference of the enquiry. The REIV has been asked to provide a submission by the due date, 23 December 2005. We have requested an extension until 10 February 2006 and are awaiting a response. We strongly encourage members to read the attached Terms of Reference and provide comments on this issue to Peter Lowenstern at plowenstern@reiv.com.au by 16 December 2005. If an extension to the due date is granted you will be advised accordingly.
Regards
ENZO RAIMONDO Chief Executive Officer
