Environmental Sustainablity

Climate change is recognised as one of the greatest challenges facing Australia and the world today.
The REIV recognises that sustainability can only be achieved with the participation of the whole community.

The Australian Government has conducted studies into the greenhouse gas emissions of residential and commercial buildings. These studies show that property owners face the challenge of becoming more environmentally sensitive while remaining economically efficient.

As the peak industry body for property professionals in Victoria, the REIV is committed to working with government and other stakeholders to assist in the implementation of programs aimed at protecting the natural environment and pursuing sustainability.

At the REIV we have implemented a number of initiatives to demonstrate our commitment to environmental and social performance.

These initiatives include:

• installing water saving devices;
• installing energy efficient devices;
• implementing a program to reduce energy consumption;
• introducing a recycling program;
• implementing a program to use recycled or Forest Stewardship Council-approved paper;
• moving communication from hard copy to electronic copy where possible;
• using biodegradable products where possible;
• carbon offsetting the vehicles of all REIV staff.
