Licence Course

Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate) CPP40307

The REIV is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO # 4042) approved to deliver the qualification required for real estate licensing in Victoria.

The Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate) – CPP40307 is the qualification prescribed by the Business Licensing Authority (BLA), a division of Consumer Affairs Victoria, as the educational requirement to apply for a real estate licence in Victoria.

In addition to this requirement, the BLA also currently requires that you provide evidence of 12 months' experience working as a registered agent's representative.

Full details of the criteria can be found at the BLA website  under Individual Licence - Estate Agents.

What is the Licensing Course?

The REIV licensing course covers all the units prescribed by Consumer Affairs Victoria for the Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate). There are 24 units in total and a full list of the units can be found on the REIV Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate) enrolment form or licence course unit synopsis. Successful completion of the course will provide you with the Certificate IV qualification.

How can I complete the course?

Contact Classes

The REIV offers the first three required units almost every week as a stand-alone course known as the Agent’s Representative course. The Agent's Representative course must be completed prior to or at the beginning of the licence course. Course dates and availability can be found on the Agent's Representative page. The balance of 21 units is obtained by attending contact classes throughout the year - each unit is scheduled every six–eight weeks. You can decide how long you wish to take to complete the course (up to a maximum of 12 months) and organise a training schedule to suit your work and personal timetable. Please click on the following link for scheduled classes:

Distance Education

If the contact classes don't suit your schedule, you can elect to complete some or all of the units by DE. Students are sent 2 units per month to complete, with each assessment due the following month. The number of units undertaken in a particular month can be increased if desired. Students are provided with the email address of a tutor should they require any assistance.

Credit Transfers (CT)

To be eligible for a Credit Transfer (exemption) in a particular unit, you must be able to provide a statement of attainment from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) showing competency acheived in the corresponding unit code, ie. CPPDSM4080A.

Where competency has been acheived in a unit which is not part of the current course, and not listed in the Unit Synopsis, Credit Transfer cannot be provided. In this instance, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be an option.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Students who completed the Agent's Representative course prior to the current training package (approx. 2008 or earlier) will not be able to gain Credit Transfers, as there is no official mapping of these units. However, students may apply for RPL if they are able to demonstrate the current compentencies from these units.

Experienced Agents Representative's with more than 2 years experience may find other units in the course that they wish to undertake by RPL. Please refer to the RPL Fact Sheet and the Licence Course - Unit Synopsis to identify if RPL is suitable for you.
